Welcome to the Carolina Breast Cancer Study

The Carolina Breast Cancer Study (CBCS), begun in 1993, is an eight-year study of the causes of breast cancer in black and white women in North Carolina.  The study is located at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and is also affiliated with the School of Public Health on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  The study has now ended, but the results of the study continue to be published.

The CBCS is funded by the National Cancer Institute’s Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Breast Cancer (SPORE). This Web site was made possible in part by a grant from the Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure®.

smginkgo.gif (1747 bytes)The ginkgo leaf is the symbol of the
Carolina Breast Cancer Study.  It was selected by
UNC graphic designer Dana Bayley to represent the Carolina Breast Cancer Study not only for its beautiful, graceful shape, but also because it is from a tree that will prosper even under difficult conditions. This combination of beauty, strength, and persistence seemed an appropriate symbol for the women who contribute to this study.
